Twitter will Censor tweets by country

Twitter has now announced it will censor certain tweets depending on the rules of each country.

Prior to this technology being activated, if Twitter blocked a tweet, it was deleted across the service globally. The new system allows it to block tweets which may not comply with a certain country’s laws just in that location, but the messages will be still be live across Twitter around the world.

Biz Stone, Twitter’s co-founder, penned the original post, which said: “Our goal is to instantly connect people everywhere to what is most meaningful to them. For this to happen, freedom of expression is essential.

“Some tweets may facilitate positive change in a repressed country, some make us laugh, some make us think, some downright anger a vast majority of users. We don't always agree with the things people choose to tweet, but we keep the information flowing irrespective of any view we may have about the content.”

Influence of Twitter and Facebook on Search Engine Results?

For longtime it has been doubted by SEO community, whether links shared on Facebook and Twitter affect SEO ranking on popular search engines like Google and Bing.Recently, these search engine giants have confirmed that SEO ranking and traffic depends upon the shared links and likes on Facebook and Twitter. Tricks of the trade change with time, now websites can be promoted through Facebook and Twitter along with the regular SEO technique.

It gives web marketers and social media optimizers to move forward by sharing in Facebook and tweeting in Twitter. However, it is not a straight forward way, it does not mean a website with more shares and links on Facebook can get positioned in top of search engine results. The actual fact is along with the regular SEO promotion it aids to improve the search engine ranking and boost traffic to website.

Does Google calculate tweeting and sharing in a meaningful way? Who shares and tweets your content is more important than the number of people sharing or retweeting the content. Not to mention, a popular profile can easily help to market any website without difficulty.

How to Use Twitter for SEO

With Social networking sites gaining popularity in SEO industry, webmasters are ready to exploit all possible channels of social media marketing to drive more traffic to their websites. Twitter is the latest trend in social networking that already has left its mark in the social as well as professional arena. So, there is no wonder that SEO service providers would want to use the potential of Twitter for search engine optimization.

Does Twitter have SEO Value?

Now there is a big question whether a link posted on Twitter passes link juice or not. Well, Twitter has SEO value which may not be direct but the other way. Twitter adds a “nofollow” attribute to all the links posted by its users. Search engines like Google, MSN may religiously obey “nofollow” instructions but there are other search engines (Ask.com) that doesn’t really pay attention to it.  So, webmasters who solely target Google might miss something by ignoring Twitter.

With millions of users registering every year Twitter definitely can be a source of organic traffic to your website if you know how to use it. Search engines might ignore the links posted on Twitter but they can not ignore a huge number of followers to a profile. Search engines give more importance to tweets by users having large number of followers than that of users with fewer followers.

Therefore, increasing the number of followers should be one’s prime objective while using Twitter for SEO purposes. Once you become a prominent figure on Twitter chances are your followers will visit most of the links you tweet. Thus Twitter can positively affect your site’s Alexa rank by driving traffic to your way. If you can bring visitors to your site via Twitter that will be an added advantage search engine marketers can not afford to ignore.

How to Use Your Twitter Profile for SEO?

Here is how you can make your Twitter profile work.

Profile: You need to choose your username carefully in order to rank with your profile. A crisp and relevant bio is a must to get noticed by both human users and search engines.

Tweet: What you tweet is the most important of all. Tweet regularly but not too much as it can annoy your followers as well. Like humans search engines also don’t like the idea of tweeting for marketing purpose only. Google can take frequent tweet with the same content as spam.

Hash Tags:Keywords preceded by a hash tag (#) help in getting a placement in twitter’s real time search as well as Google search. Instead of covering a broader term you’ll better focus in more specific keywords for better ranking. For example, if your profile refers to an Indian SEO company using #SEOIndia would be more accurate than just #SEO.

Re-tweet: Leverage the power of re-tweet option in Twitter by posting some really good and useful content. Use widely searched terms in your tweets; try tweeting unique and interesting facts related to popular topics. Posting useful links and content will automatically impel your followers to re-tweet and recommend your profile to their followers.

If you are serious about gaining followers on Twitter you have to post tweets which are valuable and interesting for others. Before you post a tweet, think about the target audience and whether or not they are likely to respond to you Tweet. It’s Ok to tweet about yourself occasionally but remember to make it interesting. Your followers should never feel that your tweets are just as boring and useless as some of the tweets by other users.

2) Mix it up

You should try and post a variety of tweets to appeal to various types of users. You can post tweets which are:

i)   Text

ii)  Replies to other tweets

iii) Retweets etc.

When your tweets are a mixture of interactive and interesting messages, interesting external links and witty responses to other people’s tweets you would enhance your chances of getting more and more twitter followers.

3) Interact

You should regularly interact with your followers which also improves your chances of increasing twitter followers. Some of the best ways to interact is to reply to other people’s tweets or by retweeting. Interacting with your followers regularly is a great way to gain and maintain twitter followers. Twitter is not just a platform to post self promotional tweets and you should try and get involved in the community.

You should also abstain from following other twitter users in a hope of being followed back. Similarly avoid using any software or program which promises to get you tons of Twitter followers with almost no work on your part.

Twitter is a wonderful social platform to enhance your personal or brand image. You can certainly increase your twitter followers but you need to take the right approach and apply the suitable techniques to be successful. Twitter Boasts That It’s Faster Than Earthquakes [VIDEO]

Twitter has released a short promotional video that touts that it’s faster than an earthquake.

The 47-second short notes draws attention to the fact that Twitter messages hit New York City before Virginia’s 5.9 magnitude earthquake had a chance to reach the Big Apple. The man in the video, warned of the quake via Twitter, picks up his mug before the quake strikes. He easily ignores the Twitter pillows and napkins being thrown at him.

The quake, which caused minimal damage, has been the subject of countless social media jokes. We expect that some will find the video insensitive, while others will laugh at the video’s whimsical nature.

At the very least, we agree with the video: Twitter is faster than earthquakes. Check out the video above and let us know what you think of the social media service’s video in the comments.

Meanwhile, in Orange Country, California, a pop singing sensation was in the making. 13-year-old Rebecca Black, whose parents paid about $2,000 to the label Ark Music Factory to produce a song and music video, has had the entire Internet captivated for days. Following the tweeted discovery of the video by comedians Michael J. Nelson and Daniel Tosh, and the subsequent blogosphere frenzy, Black’s name has rarely left the trending topics list since last Friday, and lands at number two on this week’s chart. Speculation persists about what made this catchy pop tune such a viral powerhouse. The song is face-meltingly bad.
Soccer, no surprise, continues to trend strongly, and rounds out the top three topics this week.
